How to calculate the number of rolls of wallpaper needed for a room

Do you know how to calculate the number of rolls of wallpaper needed for a room? As expert wallpaper hangers, we are here to help!

If you are replacing wallpaper that is up already, then to work out how much wallpaper you need do the following:

If it is a standard with paper it will be 52cm’s or 21inches. You count the seams between the drops of wallpaper (hard to see if the last wallpaper hanger was any good) and the total drops, let’s say 34 you divide by 3 if your room is a standard height room, then you will get three drops to a roll of wallpaper.

It is important to count the door openings as a full length to make sure you will have enough paper, in this case 11.3 rolls, let’s call it 12.

The other thing to consider is if you have a large pattern repeat on the paper you are buying (larger than 10cms) you may need to add a role or two to make sure you have enough paper. If you are papering for the first time and want to order wallpaper, if standard width wallpaper you measure around the room in margins of 21″ and count the door opes and windows as a drop, and you will come up with a number which you again divide by 3 giving you the number of rolls required for your room.
